High-Tech Toilets

Are we ready for the future in toilets Indianapolis?

Technology seems to find a way to transform some of the basic things in life.  One bathroom at a time, a major shift in toilet hygiene is quietly underway.  A new generation of toilets may one day make toilet paper nonexistent.

Unlike traditional toilets, the high-tech version washes from behind and, if desired, in front with water.  Better models allow for temperature, direction and pressure control, and have retractable spritzing wands and automatic driers as well.  The best feature warm seats, automatic motion sensors to raise the lid, night lights, music to mask unpleasant sounds and deodorizer spritzers.

Did you know that almost 75 percent of Japanese households have high-tech toilets?   This makes them more common there than home computers!  The concept of electronic toilets that cleanse with water, widely known as bidet toilets, has spread internationally over time, with a Japanese company pioneering the concept and marketing one in Japan in 1980.  Today you can purchase toilets that are motion activated, play music, illuminates, warms your feet, has a built in dryer and deodorizer, and gives you a massage!

Here are 5 nifty high-tech toilets:
·      Kohler Numi:  This toilet was built with the user in mind.  It has a motion-activated lid and heated seat, advanced bidet functions, a dryer and a deodorizer.  It also plays music, warms your feet and illuminates for nighttime use!
·      Brondell Swash 1000:  This toilet will wash you with warm water as it comes with a special tank for it!  You can also adjust the stainless steel nozzles, water and seat temperature, water pressure and air dryer.
·      INAX Integrated Toilet:  Its toilet lid opens and closes automatically.  It flushed and deodorizes on it’s own as well.  It will wash and dry your bottom and even plays music.
·      Sun-Mar Compact Composing Toilet:  This toilet is eco-friendly and turns human waste into safe fertilizing soil!

·      TOTO Neorest 550:  It has a cyclone automatic flushing system, an energy saver timer, a built-in air purifying system, a warm air dryer and a programmable nightlight and remote control to do it all.

High Efficiency Electric Tankless Water Heaters

Electric Water Heaters are efficient in Greenwood, Indiana.

All electric water heaters are High Efficiency these days. If a resistance electric water heater, which is any electric water heater, tank-type or on-demand, except heat pump models, is functioning properly, 100% of the energy in the electric current flowing through the elements is converted into heat and transferred into the water. It's an energy transfer that causes the water to heat up.  However, energy from electricity is generally much more expensive than energy from gas.  Therefore, while electric water heaters are very high efficient, the cost of the energy is the factor when comparing gas and electric models.

Heat pump models are also used for heating water.  They use much less electricity by using a refrigeration cycle to draw heat out of the air surrounding the heater and “pumping” that heat into the water.  This process, naturally, serves to cool the air.  Therefore, in the winter, these units may make your furnace work just a little bit harder, partially negating the savings. In the heat of summer, these units help do the work of your air conditioner, which results in extra savings. Heat pumps cannot heat the water fast enough to be used in an on-demand heater. Neither can electric tankless water heaters.  They both require more time in order to heat the water cycle.  Therefore, the best choice when it comes to a tankless water heater, is a gas unit.

If you would like the energy comparison of an electric tankless water heater to a gas tankless water heater, we have several plumbing experts available to answer your questions.  We are also available to provide free estimates for a new water heater installation in order for you to determine if it is a wise investment.  The feedback we receive from homeowners where we have installed tankless water heaters, love the on-demand hot water, and the endless supply of hot water.   They have extended warranties, and the life of a tankless water heater is twice as long as a standard water heater.

Fall and Winter Plumbing Maintenance Tips for Outside your Home

Plumbing Maintenance Tips

As the weather begins to cool off, now is the time to establish some good plumbing habits to protect your home.  A few simple plumbing preparations now will prevent headaches and costly repairs throughout the winter months.  Here are some Plumbing Maintenance Tips to help you be prepared!

Fall and Winter Plumbing Tips for Outside your House

·      Keep gutters free from leaves and debris:  If your gutters get clogged it can create drainage problems.  Rainwater can overflow over the gutters and land on the ground around your house.  It’s then more likely to seep into your foundation, basement or crawlspace and cause issues for you.

·      Unhook outdoor hoses:  Drain and store hoses in an area that does not go below freezing temperatures.  If left connected, water in hoses can freeze and expand causing faucets and connecting popes inside your home to freeze and break.

·      Get your sewer line cleaned and snaked:  This is an item not often thought about but it’s best to be proactive and keep the system running the way it was designed to do.  Get those pesky roots out of there as they won’t be growing much in the winter.

Fall and Winter Tips for Inside your Home

As the weather begins to cool off, now is the time to establish some good plumbing habits to protect your home.  A few simple plumbing preparations now will prevent headaches and costly repairs throughout the winter months.

Fall and Winter Tips for Inside your House:

Know where your main water valve is and how to shut it off:  If a pipe bursts, knowing how to shut off the water could save you thousands of dollars.  Teach your kids how to shut off the water main and under toilets and sinks.  Everyone that is old enough to be in the house alone should know how to turn off the water in case you aren’t home when a leak occurs.

Complete yearly maintenance on your water heater:  Your water heater works harder in colder months.  Make sure to flush out any sediment that has accumulated in your water heater, as this can cause corrosion and reduces heating efficiency.   Drain and flushes can extend its lifespan and increase efficiency to save you money

Insulate your pipes so that they are less likely to freeze:  A frozen pipe means no water flow.  Increased mass of internal ice can cause a leak and create a bigger headache.  Garages, attics and crawl spaces are two example locations.  Insulate pipes you can see, especially ones near outside walls.

Inspect and clean sump pump and pit:  Pumps exposed to extreme cold can freeze, preventing the pump from operating.  Any prolonged period of rain can also cause your sump pump to work overtime.
