AVOID BASEMENT FLOODING

Although it’s hard to imagine, it will be getting warmer in the next few weeks. And with this comes the potential for flooding due to snow and ice melting. The IBHS (Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety) urges homeowners that have experienced large amounts of snowfall and below freezing temperatures to evaluate their flood risks when warm weather arrives.

Next week, Indianapolis is looking at high temperatures in the 40’s with rainfall. Both the rain, and the rapid increase in temperature can make snow and ice melt at a faster rate than normal. Because of this you need to make sure you are prepared. A sump pump can help push melting waters away from your home, IF working correctly.

Some things to do to get ready for the warmer weather;
  • TEST YOUR SUMP PUMP- Pour water into the pit and trigger the pump to operate
  • FULLY CLEAN THE PUMP- Make sure you disconnect the pump from the power source before you clean it
  • CHECK THE PIT to make sure it’s free of debris. Most pumps have a screen that covers the intake. Keep this screen clean.
  • INSTALL A BACK-UP POWER SOURCE- buying a sump pump back up power supply is a good idea to avoid overflow.  Its better to invest in a back up than to face the cost of a flooded basement.

Average life span for a sump pump can vary. If you find that the above tips haven’t worked then it may be time for a new one. At Carter’s we highly recommend the STORMPRO® Deluxe Dual Pump Flood Control System.sump pump
  • The StormPro back-up system utilizes two reliable heavy-duty 1/3 HP 115V AC sump pumps, unlike most systems that rely on one small plastic bilge-type DC pump.
  • PumpGuard Plus alternator will cycle each pump as needed; if one pump fails the other pump will take over and sound an alarm. The PumpGuard Plus has a built-in high water alarm and is capable of connecting to your home security system or dialer.
  • Fully automatic, converts 12V battery power into standard 120V electricity to run the 1/3 HP StormPro sump pump when the power is out. Runs off of standard 115V electricity when the power is on, avoiding unnecessary battery drain down.
  • The 1/3 HP 115V StormPro sump pump supplies with the system is extremely efficient, only drawing 4.5 amps providing a long run time while pumping more water than most 1/2 HP pumps.
  • Capable of using deep cycle maintenance free ADM batteries that perform better and last twice as long as the standard type.
  • Two indicator lights tell you the status of the system at all times.
  • Protective non-corrosive electronics enclosure and battery case.

If all of this overwhelms you, feel free to call us and we will be more than happy to help you out! :)

REPLACING YOUR TUB OR SHOWER

Spring Is A Good Time To Update Your Plumbing!

With spring right around the corner, its time for homeowners to do some spring cleaning! While you’re getting organized, you may find yourself deciding how you can revamp your house for the new season. One of the most popular home renovations is your bathroom. We're here to give you guys some major reasons to consider remodeling your bathroom!

1) Increase your homes value- One of the greatest benefits to remodeling your bathroom is increasing your homes value. Remodeling Magazine estimated that U.S. homeowners will get an average of 71 cents back from every dollar they spend on updating their bathroom. So not only are you getting your dream bathroom, but you also get back a majority of your investment when you sell. Since potential home buyers put a lot of importance on remodeled bathroom, these homes tend to sell faster!!

2)Fixing existing problems-Having broken or loose tile, cabinets that are falling to pieces and/or leaking shower/tub valves can lead to leaking water and with leaking water comes mold and mildew. Replacing appliances can help eliminate this-especially in older homes.

3)Improving storage space-If your bathroom is overflowing with people and products maybe its time for a redesign. Improving the efficiency of the space you have is very important.  Whether its adding additional fixtures or doing a complete remodel, the final result will be something much more livable and could perhaps even be saving you money!

4)Personal escape and/or change of scenery-Sometimes the only reason to do a remodel is for the simple fact that you just are not happy with the current design. Updating and remodeling the bathroom can give you your own personal escape from the rest of the house. Adding a new shower or bathtub can help you unwind at the end of a busy day at the office or with kids.

At Carter’s My Plumber, our licensed plumbers will work with you throughout the renovation to ensure you and your family are satisfied with the end results. We understand that most of our costumers have a strict budget, and we are more than happy to present a wide range of options for them to work with!

Carter's Give Back to the Community

At Carter’s My Plumber we love to give PLUMBING back to our Community!!!

Collapsed sewer drain
Recently, Jamie Carter responded to a call about a collapsed sewer drain.  Upon arriving, he quickly discovered that the owner had no hot water and had been without it for 2 years.  The gentleman had lost his wife a few years ago, and had let his place go. The Carter’s donated a new hot water heater to the man, and Jamie even had time to fix the back door on the way out!!

Other community projects the Carter's have done

All the drain lines were clogged. The Carter's jetted their main sewer line for them!

Pastor Walt Willet gives Carter's My Plumber a Heartfelt Compliment.

Carter's My Plumber donates their Plumbing Service to repair a non-functioning toilet for Pastor Walt Willet.  Walt and his wife, Karen, live on the Southside of Indianapolis.  Karen is suffering from ovarian cancer, and they were in need of a toilet repair.  The Carter's are involved in helping the Southside Neighborhood where Pastor Walt donates his time to help the community.  It's a special way of being involved with the community and being able to service, says Lisa Carter.
